When did we do this hike? August 2023

Transportation: Parked in the backpacker lot at Hoh Visitor Center

Itinerary:
Water: Strangely, water isn't super accessible from this trail. In a few areas you're able to have river access and there's occasionally a feeder stream coming from the mountain side. The Hoh is glacier melt so it could clog filters. We used a BeFree and were fine. Glacier melt should always be filtered and/or treated prior drinking. Lewis Meadow campground was right along the river.

Leave-No-Trace: Follow Leave No Trace principles. Only camp the established campgrounds along the trail and try and utilize the pit toilets that are at the campgrounds. Carry out all trash. Do not burn or bury toilet paper or trash.

Flora Considerations: Very dense vegetation, trees, mosses and mushrooms

Fauna Considerations: Various deer, chipmunks, squirrels, insects, and slugs. This is black bear territory so proper food storage is a must.

Trail Specific Considerations: Temperatures and weather can range drastically in this area depending on the time of year. The trail along the river is quite shaded but once you get above the treeline towards the glacier you have full exposure. It can be very hot and humid during the summer. There is a ladder obstacle right before Glacier Meadows campground that you'll need to descend going and ascend coming back.
