logistics & itinerary

Wilderness Area : Pinnacles National Park

When did we do this hike? November 2014

Transportation: Park at or around Old Pinnacles Trailhead lot. Overflow parking is available along Chalone Creek Road.

Water: There isn't any water available on this trail.

Leave-No-Trace: Follow Leave No Trace principles. Do all washing at least 100 feet from water. Do not put any soup in water (even biodegradable and natural soup pollutes). Carry out all trash. Do not burn or bury toilet paper or trash.

Flora Considerations: Look out for poison oak.

Fauna Considerations: Know what to do if you encounter a mountain lion or wild pigs. There is also a variety of birds to see depending on the season.

Trail Specific Considerations: Bring a headlamp to use in the Balconies Cave. You will want to have your hands free. The caves are sometimes closed depending on when bats are present. That schedule can be found here. Make sure you have adequate water for this hike. Temperatures can get hot depending on the season. Check current conditions before you go. Like any wilderness trip, you accept a certain amount of risk when going on your hike. You are responsible for assessing how comfortable you feel with that risk and understanding your own physical abilities.
